COLUMBIA, S.C. – Richard C. Detwiler, the managing member of Callison Tighe & Robinson law firm, is one of the newest members of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

He was voted into ABOTA at the organization’s national board meeting in Little Rock, Ark., on Oct. 7. He is one of only seven new members from South Carolina.

ABOTA is a national invitation-only association of experienced trial lawyers and judges, dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial right provided by the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. It consists of more than 7,300 lawyers — equally balanced between plaintiff and defense — and judges, spread among 96 chapters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Rick Detwiler has been a trial lawyer for over 35 years. He has earned Martindale-Hubbell’s highest Peer Review Rating of “AV Preeminent.” Mr. Detwiler has been recognized by South Carolina Super Lawyers, The Best Lawyers in America, and by Legal Elite of the Midlands. He has tried more than 100 cases to verdict, including jury and non-jury disputes, and has navigated settlements for clients in hundreds of other cases.

Mr. Detwiler’s practice areas include commercial litigation, construction litigation, mediation, serious personal injury, trusts and estate litigation, whistleblower and false claims, and workers’ compensation.

Mr. Detwiler joins D. Reece Williams III, of counsel with Callison Tighe, as a member of ABOTA. Mr. Williams served as the organization’s national president in 2000.
