South University appoints new Director of Career Services

Dr. Monica Whitson is originally from the beautiful mountains of Asheville, NC. She relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 2004, and moved to Columbia, SC this year. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services Management from the University of Phoenix, Master of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix, Master of Science degree in Philosophy from Walden University, and earned her PhD in Human and Social Services from Walden University.

Dr. Whitson has worked in Workforce Development and Career Services for 11 years in several different capacities, such as a Job Coach, Case Manager, and a Special Projects Coordinator. Her person-centered practices assisted with building a rapport with many people served, providing career assessments, job matching services, individualized employment plans, and connecting those in need to community resources. She has successfully led initiatives that have transformed the lives of vulnerable populations and empowered the communities she’s served, demonstrating impactful social change.

She is eager and excited to apply her skill set to her new role as Director of Career Services and is confident in her ability to connect with the student body through advocation, encouragement, and support.

In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, family time, reading, and listening to Southern Blues.
