The Midlands Technical College Foundation has received a $10,000 grant from Dominion Energy to expand its welding technology  program.

The donation will buy five welding machines for students to use for advanced welding processes, according to a news release from MTC. Students in MTC’s Welding Technology program will be able to study and train for Mig and Flux-cored arc welding procedures.

“Our welding program graduates bring extraordinary talents to the community,” Ron Rhames, Midlands Tech president, said in the release. “MTC recently partnered with high school level welding programs in Lexington, Richland and Fairfield counties to make it easier, quicker and less expensive for students to become certified welders.”

The MTC Pathways to Manufacturing Careers program, announced in April, offers 22 scholarships for high school graduates interested in careers in welding or mechatronics.

Dominion Energy Southeast Energy Group president and CEO Rodney Blevins said the company’s partnership with MTC helps “develop a pipeline of skilled workers who will be ready to enter South Carolina’s workforce.”
