New brewery highlights Cayce revitalization

Cayce Mayor Elise Partin is spearheading a process of “pre-vitalizing” the city and restoring what she calls the original heart of her town.

Last year’s Soiree on State event showcased a number of industrial buildings that were rarely used for anything more than storage. Partin and her team asked the owners of those buildings to spruce them up, allowing for local art to be presented and resulting in one building securing a tenant.

“It was like what you would find at Soda City,” Partin said.

The revitalization continued Wednesday with a groundbreaking for a planned 10,000-square-foot brewery, Steel Hands Brewing, at 2350 Foreman St. The project, headed by Lambert Architecture + Construction Services, is being built at a formerly abandoned industrial site.

“We are beyond thrilled,” Partin said. “This production brewery will be the largest of its kind in the area and provide product for other businesses in the Midlands. It’s also a place where people can just come and enjoy the product.”

Partin said the brewery’s location along a popular cycling path near Cayce’s Riverwalk should make it a popular destination for people out and about.

“We hope to see that this will serve as a destination point for visitors year round,” Scott Lambert, president of Lambert Architecture, said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be a part of the local economic development and revitalization in the city of Cayce.”
