The new welding center was formerly known as the Industrial Buliding and originally constructed in 1967, according to a news release from Midlands Tech.

MTC, the state’s third-largest technical school with 8,800 students, embarked on a $50 million modernization campaign in 2015. The push includes a new $30 million, 58,245-square-foot technology center at its Beltine campus.

Ground was broken in June for that project, slated to be completed in August 2023. The center will replace the 53-year-old Lindau Engineering Technology building, which was used in April for firefighter training.

The school also opened a $14.5 million Learning Resource Center at its Beltline campus four years ago.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the welding center will begin at 9:30 a.m.
