South Carolina ETV has received a $296,257 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to support a project detailing the Reconstruction era.

The grant will support Reconstruction 360, which includes videos and short documentary films as well as an immersive website and a mobile app. The project will complement Reconstruction: America After the Civil War, a PBS documentary produced by Henry Louis Gates Jr. which premiered in 2019.

“A multi-platform approach to the creation of educational resources is a critical part of our strategy at SCETV,” Anthony Padgett, SCETV president and CEO, said in a news release. “We’re excited to receive support from the NEH for our Reconstruction 360 project and look forward to seeing users gain insight into this critical era in American history.”

The SCETV project is one of 188 to receive funding from the most recent round of National Endowment for the Humanities grants. The organization awarded more than $30 million to organizations in 45 states and Washington, D.C., according to the release.

These new NEH grants will expand access to the country’s wealth of historical, literary and artistic resources by helping archivists and curators care for important heritage collections and using new media to inspire examination of significant texts and ideas,” Jon Parrish Peede, NEH chairman, said.
