A new neighborhood master plan for the Sandhills community in Northeast Richland is available for public review.

The document can be accessed at https://www.renewpontiac.com/. The planning area includes the Richland Northeast Industrial Park on Clemson Road as well as historic businesses and residences at Two Notch and Spears Creek Church roads.

Richland County began working on the plan in the fall of 2019, gathering input through surveys and community meetings. The county requested feedback on recommendations on topics including recreation, housing, business development, transportation and beautification. The plan also includes an overview of demographic and socio-economic components for the area.

“We are excited to be nearing the finish line to present the plan to the public,” Brian Crooks, interim planning services manager for Richland County, said in a news release. “We appreciate the commitment the residents have had as we have dealt with various obstacles and setbacks in the process.”

On April 22, staff from the county’s Community Planning & Development Department will review the plan and take public comments during a Zoom meeting at 6 p.m. Access information is available on the county’s events page at www.richlandcountysc.gov/Home/Events.

The public can also comment on the plan at www.renewpontiac.com through April 23.

A final draft of the plan will move to the county planning commission for approval and then to Richland County Council for adoption.

“We are eager to begin working toward meeting the vision for rediscovering the area,” Crooks said.
