Initial S.C. unemployment claims drop by 1,884 in week

Initial unemployment claims filed for the week ending April 24 dropped by more than 1,800 from the previous week.

The 3,037 claims represented a decrease of 1,884 from the previous week, according to data from the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce. DEW paid out $67.5 million in a combination of state and federal unemployment benefits to 112,035 claimants for the week.

Since March 15, 2020, DEW has paid out $5.97 billion to 886,256 claimants.

For the most recent week, Greenville County saw 322 initial claims filed, while Spartanburg County had 277. Richland County had 254, Horry County 203, Charleston County 165 and Lexington County 129.

Nationally, initial unemployment claims fell by 13,000 to 553,000 for the week ending April 24.
