For the sixth straight year, York County leads the rankings of the state’s 46 counties in the annual child well-being profiles released by the Children’s Trust of South Carolina.

The Children’s Trust evaluates data from the Annie E. Casey Foundation to rank counties based on 16 indicators across four domains: economic well-being, education, health and family and community.

York County has ranked No. 1 overall for six consecutive years. The other top 10 counties ranked for 2019 are Dorchester, Greenville, Lexington, Beaufort, Pickens, Berkeley, Anderson, Richland and Spartanburg. Allendale County ranked last.

Union County improved by 17 spots to No. 21. Clarendon County moved up 10 spaces to 32, and Colleton County improved eight places to No. 29.

The Children’s Trust works with state, county and community partners on programs to strengthen families, encourage positive parenting, address adverse childhood experiences and provide home visiting services.
