Rising sixth, seventh and eighth grade Midland students will have the opportunity to learn robotics and gaming this summer.

The S.C. Governor’s School for Math and Sciences is accepting applications for its iTEAMS Xtreme: Next Generation summer camps. The day camps will be held June 18-21 at the Lexington Technology Center and June 25-28 at Keenan High School.

The camps feature either Arduino and Robotics or Arduino and Games. Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software.

The robotics students will learn how to program micro-controlled robots with Arduino technology, and will later compete with other students in a series of challenges.

The gaming students will learn to create tools such as stopwatches, randomized dice, buzzers and sensors they will build into games.

Online applications are available at www.scgssm.org/summer. The cost is $185 with a $20 discount per child for any family registering more than one student. Need-based financial aid is available. Applications will be accepted until June 1.
