Columbia, SC. – South Carolina Water Utilities, Inc. (“SCWU”), recently sponsored the Conservation Voters of South Carolina (“CVSC”) Green Tie Awards Luncheon to celebrate elected and civic leaders who stand in the South Carolina General Assembly and their own communities to protect our state’s air, land, and water.

SCWU representatives attended the Green Tie Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023, at 701 Whaley in Columbia. Since 2009, CVSC has hosted the luncheon, recognizing, and celebrating the work of leaders dedicated to advancing environmental and conservation policy across the state.

Understanding the impact that these elected and civic leaders have made and continue to make across South Carolina and in their communities, SCWU partnered with CVSC to sponsor the event.

“The Green Tie Awards Luncheon put on by the Conservation Voters of South Carolina provides a unique atmosphere to not only celebrate what has been done to help protect our environment but also to foster new ideas on how we can better protect our state’s natural resources,” said SCWU President, Craig Sorensen. “Partnering with organizations like CVSC to recognize our conservation leaders inspires further actions to protect our communities.”

The 2023 CVSC Green Tie Award recipients honoring leaders in environmental advocacy included:
• House Conservation Leadership Award: Representative Patricia Hengan (D-Marlboro)
• House Conservation Leadership Award: Representative Phillip Lowe (R-Florence)
• Senate Conservation Leadership Award: Senator Gerald Malloy (D-Darlington)
• Senate Conservation Leadership Award: Senator Scott Talley (R-Spartanburg)
• Green Tie Award for Lifetime Conservation Achievement: Chief Pete Parr of the Pee Dee Indian Tribe

“CVSC’s Green Tie Luncheon allows us to recognize and celebrate elected and civic leaders who have gone above and beyond to protect South Carolina’s environment. Green Tie would not be possible without organizations like South Carolina Water Utilities joining us to celebrate these leaders and help us work towards making environmental issues a top priority among South Carolina’s elected and business leaders.”

SCWU recognizes the importance partnerships like this provide to its customers, communities, and the Palmetto State, and looks forward to continuing being an active community partner.
