S.C. attorney general investigating Facebook

S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson is working with attorneys general from 47 other states to investigate possible antitrust violations of Facebook’s business practices.

A bipartisan group of attorneys general are looking into Facebook’s dominance of social media and the potential for anticompetitive conduct that could be a violation of state or federal laws.

The attorneys general announced the investigation Tuesday. The investigation is being led by the top prosecutors from New York, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and the District of Columbia.

In a news release, Wilson said, “Competition built this country, and free competitive markets are important for social media platforms. … To ensure that there is meaningful market-based competition, we will work exhaustively to verify that companies follow the law.”
