S.C. Chamber of Commerce names scholarship recipients

Four S.C. high school students have received scholarships from the S.C. Chamber of Commerce at its annual S.C. Business Week event, July 21-26.

Jalen Canada, a 2019 Airport High School graduate, received the S. Hunter Howard Jr. Scholarship of $5,000. Howard is a retired president and CEO of the chamber.

Zakarra Brown, a rising senior at Wilson High School in Florence, won the Ron McNair Leadership Award of $5,000. The scholarship honors the memory of Lake City native and astronaut Ron McNair.

Molly Brackett, a rising senior at Nation Ford High School in Fort Mill,  won the Mechanical Contractors Association of S.C. Scholarship of $2,500.

Ronald King II, a rising senior at Fort Mill High School, received the Chelse Ward Elliott Scholarship of $2,000. The scholarship is presented in memory of Chelse Ward Elliott, wife of Business Week company adviser Tony Elliott.

Also recognized were the 2019 Business Week Student CEOs: Alex Romero, South Aiken High School; Breonna Bowman Sharperson, Edisto High School; Olivia Dozier, Dreher High School; Ronald King II, Fort Mill High School; Chandler King, St. James High School; Jadia Riley, Lakewood High School, Charlotte Brailsford, First Baptist School.

Business Week allows students to interact with business leaders and fellow students with similar interests. This year, 113 students attended the 36th session of the event at the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina.
