Governor bans late-night alcohol sales
The sale of alcoholic beverages in S.C. bars and restaurants will be banned after 11 p.m., starting Saturday night. Gov. Henry McMaster said the measure is aimed at young adults "who are rapidly contracting the virus."

West Columbia to require face coverings
As of 6 a.m. Friday, face coverings will be required in commercial establishments providing goods or services to the public, including grocery stores and city buildings. Food service and retail employees must also wear face coverings.
Extended tax filing and payment deadline nears
Individual income taxes, along with corporate income taxes and license fees, are due July 15. The deadline was extended because of COVID-19 concerns.

Richland County is conducting an online poll seeking feedback on a potential ordinance requiring face coverings. The ordinance would follow CDC guidelines recommending masks for ages 2 and older.

The county's Stormwater Management Division is launching virtual focus groups to solicit feedback concerning local water resources. Participants should sign up for the groups by Aug. 14.
Theaters to remain closed, statewide mask ordinance not likely
As COVID-19 cases soared last week, Gov. Henry McMaster said certain businesses will remain closed but said a statewide mandate requiring facial coverings would be "ineffectiveâ€_x009d_ and "impractical."

Columbia to require masks within city limits
Columbia City Council passed an ordinance requiring face coverings in commercial establishments. The ordinance also requires restaurants, retail stores, pharmacies, grocery stores and salons to require employees to wear masks.
McCoy confirmed as U.S. attorney for District of South Carolina
Peter M. McCoy Jr., a Charleston native, was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate. McCoy was initially appointed as the state's chief federal law enforcement officer in March.
I-77 interchange to get $34.6M federal infusion
The new interchange, planned as part of the Carolina Panthers' relocation of their NFL headquarters to Rock Hill, will receive a share of $906 million in federal infrastructure funding, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced.
City of Columbia to consider requiring masks be worn
The city will consider an emergency ordinance during its Tuesday meeting to require masks or face coverings be worn in public inside city limits. On Thursday, S.C. announced a single-day record of 987 new COVID-19 cases.
