Flood victim back home through county program
Judith Spry is the first resident to receive a new home through Richland County's Returning Home program, which assists those displaced by the 2015 flood. The county is repairing or replacing more than 300 flood-damaged homes.

McMaster submits 135 opportunity zone nominations
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 created a development program designed to encourage long-term private investment in low-income communities. Governors can designate for inclusion 25% of areas identified by census tracts as distressed.
Bishopville to receive $880,000 grant
The grant, from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration, will go toward water infrastructure improvements expected to create 150 jobs.

City to hold zoning discussion
The city of Columbia zoning department will play host to an open house to give residents and business owners a chance to review the city's new zoning ordinance on March 27.
Forest Acres denies rezoning request
The city council voted down a request from Cason Development Group to rezone property at the corner of Forest Drive and Brentwood Drive. A mixed-used redevelopment project would have included three commercial buildings and 13 townhomes.
School district receives $10,000 more in unclaimed property
Richland County School District 2 has received an additional $10,000 in unclaimed property from the S.C. Treasurer's Office. The district was originally slated to receive $36,354 of the $193,697 earmarked for state school districts.
Richland County Council suspends spending on questioned projects
The council halted Penny Tax funding to projects the S.C. Supreme Court found were not related to transportation. The county could be ordered to repay those funds.
Report: Scams cost S.C. residents $1.6M in 2017
The most reported scam to the department was the impostor scam, where scammers pose as a familiar organization or person and ask for money. The report shows more than $1.6 million was lost last year to scammers.
