Mattress manufacturer investing $45M in Fairfield County

Healthcare US Co. Ltd., a venture of China-based Healthcare Co. Ltd., is investing $45 million to establish new operations in Fairfield County. The new facility, located in Winnsboro, is expected to create 250 jobs.

Healthcare Co. Ltd., founded in Jiangsu, China, in 2003, is a publicly traded memory foam mattress manufacturer, the largest of its kind in China. The company has production operations in Serbia and Spain and approximately 3,600 workers worldwide.

“We’re happy to be establishing this new facility in Fairfield County, and we are very appreciative of the ongoing support from both the local and state governments,” Healthcare Co. Ltd. president James Ni said in a news release. “This is a milestone for our company, and we are excited to support the community we will soon be calling home.” 

The company’s new 650,000-square-foot plant at 1 Guardian Way in Winnsboro will specialize in the production of memory foam mattresses, according to the release. Hiring is expected to begin early next year. Applicants can contact healthcare.us@hkfoam.com.

The new facility is a good bit of news for Fairfield County, which lost more than 5,000 jobs after twin nuclear reactors being constructed at the V.C. Summer Nuclear Power Station were abandoned in July 2017. That same month, the closure of textile company DuraFiber’s Winnsboro plant eliminated more than 200 jobs.

But in September, the county learned television manufacturer Element Electronics had been removed from a tariffs list and would not have to close its Winnsboro plant, saving the jobs of 134 permanent employees.

Ltd. has chosen to locate its first U.S. factory in Winnsboro,” Fairfield County Council chair Billy Smith said. “The representatives of this company with whom we’ve worked throughout this process have been a pleasure to do business with, and we look forward to their future operation and success within the county. We welcome them with open and supporting arms and are hopeful that others will see this and know that Fairfield County is open for business and focused on the kind of growth that will be beneficial both for our citizens and the businesses that choose to locate and invest with us.”
