An Indianapolis-based, privately owned real estate development and investment company has purchased 80 acres on Two Notch Road in Lexington for $4.48 million.

Scannell Properties plans to build a 350,000-square-foot FedEx Ground facility at the property at 2120 Two Notch Road, according to a news release from Wilson Kibler, which brokered the sale.

Scannell also owns a 247,000-square-foot distribution center at Columbia Metropolitan Airport off Platt Springs Road and Colite Drive.

Construction of the Two Notch facility, which will include ample trailer parking, is underway and expected to be online in the first half of 2023.

“It’s always exciting to be part of something that will positively impact the local economy and create new jobs,” George McCutchen, Wilson Kibler principal, said in the release. “And it’s a double-win because having access to this new facility will further enable companies doing business in South Carolina to meet the needs of their customers.”

Scannell, founded in 1990, focuses on build-to-suit and speculative development projects throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe.

New food store open on Harden Street

FuruSato Bento, a convenience store offering Japanese food and snacks, is now open at 748 Harden Street.

The location is newest venture from owner Kazuhiro Sato, also behind the Vista’s Menkoi Ramen House and Inakaya at O’Neil Court in the Northeast.

FuruSato Bento celebrated its grand opening Tuesday in the former Grilled Teriyaki location which closed in 2020 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a news release from the Five Points Association.

The store offers chips, candies, ramen noodles and drinks along with Daifuku rice and red bean cakes, pastries and take-and-heat bento boxes, sushi platters and rice balls made in-house daily.

“Five Points is elated to have Mr. Sato open up shop here,” Katy Renfroe, Association Manager of the Five Points Association, said. “With a track record of two other long-time restaurants in Columbia – Menkoi Ramen House in the Vista and Inakaya at O’Neil Court in Northeast – I know Mr. Sato will offer only the finest quality dishes in Japanese cuisine. FuruSato Bento is a fantastic addition to our village offering items that you can’t find anywhere else in Columbia.”
