Anyone in need of legal services in the Midlands would do well to consider a venerable firm going back a half century, anchored by six practitioners selected as Super Lawyers by their peers with two more as Rising Stars, helmed by an icon of Columbia-area law and recognized as the practice where honesty, commitment and focus on the client rule the day.

Moore Bradley Myers Law Firm, the new name of Moore Taylor in the wake of J. Mark Taylor’s retirement, features 150 combined years of experience in civil litigation, criminal defense, domestic law and bankruptcy, along with the full range of legal representation.

Despite its long provenance, the firm is still growing, with 46 lawyers, paralegals and support staff in Columbia and Saluda offices. In the area of civil litigation, the firm has secured numerous six-and seven-figure verdicts and settlements. Two partners have been accepted into the American Board of Trial Advocates and one alone, Jake Moore, has taught more than 50 continuing legal education classes to other attorneys.

Indeed, Moore, a 46-year veteran of the firm, is known throughout South Carolina as a lawyer’s lawyer who works by the mantra of representing clients, not cases.

“Anytime anyone honors us by considering us to represent their interests, we consider it a privilege,” he says.

The criminal defense team has handled hundreds of cases in federal, circuit, and magistrates’ courts, including complex cases that require years of experience to master. The firm can navigate through the confusing and frustrating legal process while ensuring rights of clients are protected.

With Taylor’s retirement, Moore Bradley Myers lost one of the most highly decorated domestic law practitioners in the country. But he trained the four remaining attorneys who handle divorce, custody and DSS cases. So respected is the firm in domestic law that two of its former attorneys have ascended to Family Court judgeships.

A leading expert on bankruptcy law, the firm’s Jane Downey has been recognized as Highly Distinguished by peers in the field. With a long track record of success, Moore Bradley Myers is one of the only firms in South Carolina experienced in chapters 7, 9, 11, 12 and 13 filings.

The firm is woven into the community, with staff serving on nonprofit boards, teaching Sunday school, chairing beautification committees and providing financial support to a host of Midlands charities. Moore Bradley Myers has built its reputation since 1971 by serving clients with this ethos:

“All we can ever promise is we will be honest with you, we will care about you, and we will give you the best effort we know how,” says Moore.

Moore Bradley Myers Law Firm was profiled in the 2021 Columbia Regional Business Report Book of Experts.
